Store bought veggie dips might make things easy, but if you really want to serve some healthy(ish), delicious dips for chips, you’re going to want to make some yourself. Here’s how you can make one of the best onion yogurt dips around!
Get Your Ingredients. – First things first, you have to grab your ingredients. Make sure you have two tablespoons of butter or olive oil, three medium onions that you’ve peeled and diced, two minced cloves of garlic, one and a half cups of low-fat Greek yogurt, some Worchestershire sauce, one tablespoon of salt, half a teaspoon of black pepper, and just a pinch of cayenne.
Fry It Up. – Time to fry up your onions. Take a large, heavy-bottomed stockpot, and melt your butter (or heat up your olive oil) over medium-high heat. Throw in your onions, and brown them, sauteing for about half an hour, and stirring occassionally. Then, add your garlic, and saute for another two minutes, until the garlic is nice and fragrant. Take it off the heat when it is, and add it to a mixing bowl. Let it chill in the fridge for about 15 minutes, so that it reaches room temperature.
Making the Dip. – Now, it’s time to complete your onion yogurt dip. Add the rest of your ingredients — your Greek yogurt, salt, black pepper, and cayenne — and stir until it’s evenly combined. Put in your Worchestershire sauce to taste. Most times, about two teaspoons will do, but it’s up to you, chef. Adjust your seasoning according to taste, and then serve.
For extra flair, you can set some of the carmalized onions aside, and use them as a topping. You could also try offering your onion yogurt dip with things other than chips, such as bagel chips, or veggies. Just be sure to eat it all up though, as it’ll only keep for about three days.
